If any one knows a little to anything about essential oils, they must be well aware about Lavender essential oil.  

Lavender essential oil is a sweet smelling oil that is very mild and soothing. It is widely used and available. 

So let's focus on some health benefits, uses as well as some adverse effects of this essential oil. 

Aroma therapy 



Aroma therapy or essential oil therapy has been around us for thousands of years. Lavender oil has been used in it since ages. 

It claims for improving physical as well as psychological health. 

Because of it's anti anxiety property, it relaxes your mind and help in better concentration. 

Relieving stress develops a positive energy in the body. 

In treating insomnia 



If you're a person who wakes up in the middle of the night due to which couldn't get enough rest, you must try out this oil once. 

Various studies have shown that Lavender essential oil can be very useful in treating insomnia. It relaxes our mind to a point that induces deep sleep. It is believed that it has some sedative effects in it that help us to sleep. 

How to use

Any one suffering from insomnia is advised to use few drops of this oil on their pillows or bedsheet. 

Keeping fresh lavender flowers on your bedside table can also be beneficial. 

In hair fall



It improves blood circulation and promote hair growth while preventing hair loss. When massaged into the scalp, it balances the scalp sebum production. 

How to use

  1. Add about 8 to 10 drops of lavender essential oil in 2 teaspoons of warm carrier oil. 
  2. Apply it directly into your scalp and massage it for sometimes with the help of your fingertips. 
  3. Wait for 30 minutes or you can leave it overnight too. 
  4. Use a mild shampoo to wash your hair.
A few studies showed that Lavender oil can reverse hair loss. It shows a dramatic growth in number of hair follicles too.

Headache



It has been seen that Lavender essential oil does help to get rid if headaches. 
It even has some inflammatory properties. 

How to use

Just massaging 2 to 4 drops of this oil on your temple region of your forhead works wonder in headaches. 

Anti anxiety 





Lavender oil impacts Limbic system, a part of brain that controls emotions. Hence calms anxiety. 

Though it may not be helpful in depression, it will surely help you to relax. 

How to use 

Put few drops of this oil in water, in a diffuser or in your bathtub. You may combine it with some other oils too.
The fragrance will do its job. 

Adverse effects 

Lavender essential oil has been widely used in soaps, face creams and other cosmetics. Hence you must be careful if you have any kind of allergies.

Due to presence of chemical components in the oil, one must never ingest it. 
Cases of poisoning have been reportedly increased in children in last few year. Therefore it should be kept out of reach of children. 

Other potential adverse effects includes sedative effects, allergic reactions etc. 
Due to it's highly concentrated nature, chances of contact dermatitis have been reported. 

All these effects have been rarely reported in people but still a patch test is advised to all.

Above all it should never be used directly. It should always be diluted first before use.
