Ayurveda, the most ancient medical science of our country, India. But is it only limited to medicines and treatments? No.
The main aim of ayurveda, as mentioned in different books and samhitas, is to treat the illness of the patients and to maintain the health of a healthy person.
Everyone knows about the beauty of this science. Everyone is trying to adapt some or the other thing from ayurveda in their daily life routine too. But is it enough? Is it enough to adapt one or two process to lead a happy lifestyle. Will it make you healthy?
Ayurveda is something which is a lot more than one can imagine. And adapting it is not that tough either
I have heard many people saying that the processes in ayurveda are actually very long so it's difficult to include them in our daily routine.
But let me clear you one thing, this is one of the science that will actually help you in forming your schedule too, if you actually wish to include it in your lifestyle.
So here I'll be sharing or in others words will be helping you to form a morning schedule or routine according to ayurveda.
Morning routine according to Ayurveda
Wake up
An ideal morning routine of ayurveda starts at brahma muhurta i.e. 4am to 5:30 am.
Now it might be difficult to wake up so early in the morning but there are many reasons why you should wake up that early.
1. Your mind and body is actually ready for movement and work at that time. You may not know it, but your body does.
2. This is the best time for meditation and study.
If you're a student, you tend to learn your subjects faster in the morning than late at night.
3. We actually can remember all the dreams we see in this time frame. That's because our mind is actually very active at this time.
So waking up between 4 am to 5:30 am is mandatory according to ayurveda.
Now you must be wondering what we'll do after waking up so early? Well we have a lot of task to perform in the morning. Let's head on to that.
Brush
After freshing up, brush your teeth properly.
In ayurveda there is a proper way to brush your teeth which includes getting branch of some tree (neem or arka). Chewing it for sometimes. And then rubbing it on your teeth.
In olden times people use to do this and is actually practiced among people in present time too.
It is believed that this will resolve all the problems you are facing related to your mouth and gums
But this isn't quite practical for many people. So simply brushing your teeth with a toothpaste followed by a mouthwash will work.
Tongue scrapping is must as your tongue might have a lot of bacterias building on it's surface.
Nasya
Putting oil in nostrils is known as nasya.
This process is believed to improve the sense of smell. It may have some other positive effects too like in adding glow to your skin, in hair fall, sinus etc.
For nasya,
- First lay down on a bed with your head lower than your legs.
- Now put 1 to 2 drops of sesame oil in your left nostril.
- Then inhale sharply.
- Do the same in right nostril.
- Wait for sometime. You might feel some mucus building up in your throat.
- Add some salt in a glass full of lukewarm water.
- Use this water to gargle.
Massage
Daily oil massage on your body will help you fight with aging and tiredness. Makes your skin glow and improves your sleeping pattern too.
Anyone suffering from insomnia are suggest to have an oil massage on your body.
If you don't feel like leathering your body with oil everyday, apply oil on your head, ears and on the sole of your foot.
Exercise
To lead a happy life style one is suggested to exercise daily. It makes you healthy not only physically but mentally too. It improves your stamina and lowers the risk of obesity. According to Ayurveda we should exercise only till we start sweating. We should not tire our body while exercising. Sweating means the heat inside our body is fully generated and the body organs are activated.
Bath
After about half an hour of exercising we should take bath.
Temperature of water should be kept according to your own preference but bathing in very hot water should be avoided as it might lead to dryness of the skin.
Wetting your head and hair with wam water should be avoided too as it might have some adverse affect on your eyes and heart and it'll weaken the strength of your hair follicles.
Head should be washed with cold water or with water at room temperature.
You should first wet your legs then your body. It might help in avoiding the shock you get while putting water on your body the first time.
Meditation
Who here is not aware about the wonders meditation does on your body, mind and soul.
Meditation not only improves our concentration and focus but also makes us mentally strong and ready for the day.
Meditating only for 15 min a day does wonders for your memory too.
So it is always advised to a person to meditate even if he is not following this routein.
Meditation can be done in any form. You can focus on your breathing.
You can lit a candle in front of you and can focus on its light.
Or you can focus on the image or statue of god.
Breakfast
Breakfast is advised after sunrise.
Unlike western culture, ayurveda suggest us to have light and easy to digest breakfast as heavy breakfast may tend to slow us down through out the day.
Moreover the digestion process become kind of slower throughout the night and suddenly bombarding it with heavy breakfast might affect its efficiency.
That's all about the morning routine as mentioned in ayurveda.
This morning routine is according to ayurvedic grantha Ashtang hridyam.
Ayurveda is a beautiful science. And its beauty can only be felt if practiced properly.
This whole routine might feel like a lot. Some of the things may feel a little odd to you but if researched you might find that these processes are actually individually followed by many people in various parts.
If you feel like its a lot and cannot be done on daily basis then just try to follow this whole routine for 21 days. You'll see the results.
