We have been using home remedies and diys to overcome some of the very common skin and hair problems. But sometimes the effect is not as much as expected. 
Sometimes there is a quality issue and sometime our skin is not able to absorb the nutrients and nourishment  which we are trying to provide through homemade diys. 
But how to overcome these problems. Well, there is always a solution to a problem. Essential oils. 
Essential oils have been used since ages. But nowadays their trend has increased a lot. 
But before using Essential oil you should know everything about them including all the pros and cons.

What are essential oils? 

Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts containing volatile compound. Hence can easily evaporate at room temperature. These oils capture the plant scent and essence. 
These are the purest form of plant extracts, hence are easily absorbed by our skin and are really very effective.

How are the extracted? 

These oils are extracted from plants through distillation process. 
These are of two types edible and non edible. Generally essential oils used in cosmetics or skin care are of non edible type hence cannot be consumed.

How do essential oils work? 


These are commonly used in aroma therapy in which the vapors of these oils are inhaled through various methods. 

Inhaling the aromas can stimulate various part of your brain and help in inducing relaxation. It lowers the anxiety level and depression symptoms. 

How are essential oils used in skin care?


Essential oils are are the purest form of plant oils hence are highly concentrated. This cannot be used directly on skin as it can result in inflammation, burning and can even cause allergies. Therefore these should be diluted first before use.

How can we dilute essential oils?

Essential oils are generally diluted by adding few drops of them in any career oils such as coconut oil, olive oil etc. They can also be added in shampoo, conditioner, face cream, hair mask, hair oils etc. 
Only few drops of essential oil is enough for a single use.

Do essential oils actually work? 


As in skin care and hair care various studies prove that these are very effective. As these are directly absorbed by the skin therefore it stimulates the cells of a body much faster than any other method however, their effectiveness depends on what a person uses them for. 
The compounds in essential oils may have some health effect on human body. 
Such as, 
Headache 
Constipation 
Sore muscles 
Sinus infection etc. 

Uses of essential oils. 


These are quickly absorbed by the skin hence they work much faster than any other diy method. These have various uses as in skin care Hair Care aromatherapy in food etc. 
Now a days we can get any kind of essential oils. Various brands are producing different kind of essential oils which are easily available. Such as levandar oil, peppermint oil, tea tree oil, sandalwood oil, rose oil, turmeric oil, ginger oil eucalyptus oil, onion oil... and the list goes on and on. The most common uses of essential oil we came across now a days are

1. In diffusers

Essential oils in diffusers are commonly used for aromatherapy. Few drops of oil is kept in the diffusers and is left open. As the Essential oil, due to is volatile nature, evaporates, the aromas that are then inhaled stimulate some parts of our brain and help us in relaxing.

2. In skin care


Few drops of of Essential oil is mixed with carrier oil, face oil, face mask, face creams, etc and is applied on our face. These when used regularly have a wonderful effect on our face.

3. In hair care


Few drops of essential oils is mixed with carrier oils. It is then massage gently on our scalp. It is believed that using essential oils regularly in hair care routine can help in getting rid of various hair problems.


What are the the precautions that you should take while using essential oils?


Essential oils are definitely a better and effective option to make a skin healthier but various precaution should be taken while using them. 

1. It should not be used directly on skin. It should be diluted first before use. 

2. Taken by mouth many essential oils can be dangerous in high concentration. 

3. In Australia, essential oils have been increasingly causing cases of poisoning, mostly in children. Hence it should be kept out of reach of children. 

4. Some essential oils may cause some kind of allergies on your skin therefore a patch test for 24 hours is recommended before using them. 

5. The potential side effect of essential oils includes irritation and burning, headache, attack attack etc.

Essential oils are compounds which when used correctly can have great effect on our body. However if used incorrectly can cause many health related issues. Has it should be used wisely. Always dilute them before using. Do not ingest  or consume them. For curious minded people, these are just oils. So this will never taste good. Don't be too curious. It won't do any good to you.
